RASPBERRY
Raspberry (Rubus idaeus) – the queen of the orchard, prized for its vibrant red color and sweet-tart flavor. Native to Europe and northern Asia, raspberries grow on shrubs that bear fruit during the summer.
Their fruits are rich in fibers, vitamins, and natural plant compounds.
Historically, raspberries were a symbol of luxury, and today they are a beloved ingredient in cuisines worldwide.
The raspberry plant thrives in temperate climates, and its fruits are used in jams, juices, desserts, and as a natural coloring agent in the food industry.
RASPBERRY
Raspberry is a herbaceous low growth plant from the rose family (Rosaceae). It bears fruit immediately after planting, and reaches full fertility in the third year. It bears fruit once or several times a year, lives on average 8-14 years, and can reach an age of up to 20 years. It grows in the form of a bush up to 3.5 m in height.
The name idaeus derives from the name of Mount Ida in Crete. There is a Greek myth that Zeus saved raspberries when he was a child and his mother hid him behind the raspberry bushes because his father, the then supreme god Chronos, wanted to kill him.
The Romans expanded the cultivation of raspberry throughout Europe. In the Middle Ages, raspberries began to be used for medicinal purposes and as a dye, and only rich people could use it. In North America, before the Europeans arrived, the American Indians had long used raspberries. Raspberry cultivation expanded in the 18th century because the rich were no longer the only ones who could afford to buy the seedlings.
